As a social enterprise, our profits will go towards furthering our social aim, which is to raise the bar and lower the barriers to internships throughout the UK. We're currently developing ideas around a number of initiatives to address the problems below.
Accessibility
Quality
Speaking to interns, or young people looking for internships, one of the main issues we come across is the lack of accessibility in internships. The problem is threefold:
Geographic - most internships take place in London
Financial - many young people can't afford to work for free
Social - lack of family networks - 'it's who you know'.
The other main issue we aim to tackle is that of quality. Many young people get what sounds like the internship of a lifetime, only to get to the workplace to find they are exploited.
Although tea-making is an important skill, we believe that employers have much to offer a young person, and it is often the case that they just need more guidance on the issue of internships. For more information, see our Employer pages.
